February UpdatePosted : March 4th, 2013
February tends to be a very quiet month for the yard as the focus is geared towards the beginning of the turf season, which is now just over three weeks away. However, we added a further two winners to our tally for the all-weather season, which now stands at 14.
Black Cadillac got us off the mark for the month, winning over 6f at Lingfield in good style under Dan Muscutt, who was riding his 12th career winner. He can be forgiven his subsequent run at Lingfield in the Sprint Series Final, where unfortunately a very slow start cost him any chance. A fair sprinter on his day, he remains on a mark off which he can be very competitive granted fast ground on turf this season.
I was very pleased with the performance of Debdebdeb, who shed his maiden tag at the third time of asking over a mile at Kempton Park, making most of the running under David Probert and holding on very gamely in a tight finish. A real galloper, she should appreciate a step up in trip and looks the sort to improve when sent handicapping on the grass this spring.
Our National Hunt representative this season has been Chiberta King, who impressed when winning in good style over hurdles at Newbury in January but looked to get bogged down in the heavy ground at Warwick on his only subsequent start. A Listed winner on the level, he will revert to the flat for a couple of runs before perhaps going novice chasing later this year.
