January – March UpdatePosted : April 11th, 2011
A quiet couple of months with the focus very much on the coming season, but our small AW team have continued in good form, with six winners since the turn of the year.
Three of those wins have come from Twin Soul, who has been a revelation since stepping up to 1m4f. She is now a stone higher in the handicap than at the beginning of her winning streak, but still looks feasibly-handicapped and hopefully a switch to the turf can bring about further improvement.
Loch Fleet didn’t see the racecourse at 2, but made up for lost time with a ready win over a mile at Lingfield Park in February. He has since finished down the field on his handicap debut, but a drop of a couple of pounds will help and he should improve with experience.
Queen Of The Desert had run some good races in defeat last year and started 2011 with a second to a subsequent winner over 6f at Lingfield, before returning to the same course to register a narrow win in maiden company.
Tweedledrum was another to shed her maiden tag, giving the Kingsclere Racing Club the perfect start to the new season with her win over 1m3f at Kempton Park. She probably deserves her mark of 72, and as a lightly-raced filly she could have more to offer this year.
Angelic Upstart has twice run well in defeat since recording two wins in Nov/Dec, and he certainly looks capable of defying a mark of 78 in the coming months.
Grand Piano has placed twice in maidens over 6 and 7 furlongs, and his mark of 65 looks fair, while Arizona High is another to have gone close in maiden company and he could prove a bit better than his initial mark of 66 in time.
