November UpdatePosted : December 12th, 2013
The final month of a fantastic season for the yard saw a first Kingsclere winner in Australia, with Side Glance winning the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington under an excellent ride from Jamie Spencer.
Fourth in the Dubai World Cup back in March, Side Glance ran at Ascot in June and, having taken in the USA as well (where he finished an unlucky-in-running third in the Arlington Million), his win in Australia, just a week after his sixth in the Cox Plate, shows just how tough he is.
He has since finished a very good fifth in the Group 1 Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin and, all being well, we will now prepare him for another tilt at the Dubai World Cup at Meydan in March.
2013 has now seen us record 100 winners in a season for the first time, a Group winner in Australia, a Royal Ascot success and an Ayr Gold Cup win, so it has certainly been a year to remember!
Domestically, we added a further three winners to the tally this month, the first of them coming on the final day of the flat season at Doncaster, with the mud-loving Miss Cap Estel springing a shock win in the 1m2f fillies Listed contest under David Probert. It was a career-best effort on what was her final start, as she has now been retired to the paddocks by her owner John Pearce.
Mick and Janice Mariscotti have enjoyed a successful year and they have plenty to look forward to next season, with their two year olds Chinotto and Royal Preserve both successful at Lingfield Park this month.
Both sons of Duke Of Marmalade, they were each having their third start and were ridden to victory by David Probert. Given marks of 78 and 75 respectively, they are both useful prospects who look likely to improve at three.
